Chunyoung is an artist based in London, originally from South Korea. Her work revolves around the latent potential in discarded household materials—objects often overlooked and destined for the landfill, yet brimming with unfinished life.

Trained as a classical sculptor in 1980s South Korea, life took her on a different path— she became a wife, a mother, and the one who puts food on the table for my family. However, upon relocating to London, she returned to her artistic journey with The Essential School Of Painting in 2021.
Transitioning from painting to knitted soft sculpture, she endeavours to create a sense of vitality, transforming neglected textiles into figurative forms teeming with life.  The sculptural bodies were reformed from neglected and scrap textile materials, which were once intimately wrapped on one's body.

It took Chunyoung several decades to rejoin her artistic practice and during that time it seemed like wasted time for her. She now turns it as integral to her artistic journey, much like the discarded materials she works with. Through her art, she invites viewers to contemplate life's role within the cycle of capitalism and to recognise the lasting potential within discarded materials.
